Ajax’s young squad not afraid to play Ronaldo as game ends in 1-1 draw

After the young Ajax squad did not show any fear against Real Madrid, they were also not hesitant to play against the Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo.

On Wednesday night, Ajax replied rather quickly against Juventus right after Ronaldo scored. David Neres scored a goal to make the game a draw at 1-1 during the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals.

Ajax’s 19 years old captain and center back, Matthijs de Ligt said, “I think we are doing pretty well. We are in possession of a team which has a lot of potentials and it tends to emerge fully in the matches of Champions league.”

Although Ajax, showing enough confidence had many opportunities for goal, they in the end still let Ronaldo waltz in with the ball and score a goal in the 45th minute. Ronaldo was playing in this game after coming back from a 2-week injury break.

Juventus also nearly won the match when Douglas Costa managed to hit the goal post in the 85th minute of the game.

As for the second leg of the Champions League, it is due on Tuesday and will be played in Turin.

The inner of that leg will face either against Tottenham or Manchester City in the semi-finals.
