Amelie Mauresmo decides not to become new Davis Cup captain for France; instead opts to work with Lucas Pouille

Amelie Mauresmo; the former coach of Andy Murray has decided to not be the new captain for France’s Davis Cup Team. She instead informed the media that she is choosing to work with Lucas Pouille.

Amelie Mauresmo confirms her sudden U-turn from the position despite being the first woman in the country to be named as the new captain for Davis Cup team back in June.

36 years old Amelie Mauresmo was due for taking over the French team from Yannick Noah. Yannick’s third stint as the captain ended in a disappointing defeat or French team by hands of Croatia last month at the final which was held at Lille’s soccer stadium.

Pierre Cherret, the FFT’s National Technical Director said to media that h would now begin the process of finding the new Davis Cup Captain who will also take charge of the men’s tens team at 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Cherret said to media, “it is important for Lucas to look for the most likely person to continue his development in the sport after his fruitful collaboration with Emmanuel Palenque. As the head of the French teams, I will soon send in my proposal for the new captain to the committee”.

Mauresmo, who herself is a two times Grand Slam champion will start working with Lucas Pouille in his reparation for the new season.

24 years old Lucas Pouille is the World rank no. 32 and is looking forward to work with Mauresmo. He thanks head the French Federation for enabling him to work with Mauresmo.

He extended his happiness on Twitter, “I am very happy to start my collaboration with Mauresmo. Her experience as both a player and as a coach could help me achieve my goals”.
