Andy Murray undergoes hip resurfacing surgery

The former world no. 1 Andy Murray has confirmed the news that he has undergone his hip resurfacing surgery.   

Murray who is the three-time Grand Slam champion revealed to the world in an emotional media conference ahead of Australian Open that he has the intention to retire after 2019’s Wimbledon tournament. At the same time, he also admitted that his time at Melbourne could also be his final tournament of the career.




Murray was previously unsure about his decision as to if he should undergo surgery which involves the placement of a metal place into the joint. He admitted to the fact that there was no guarantee he would be able to make a full and successful comeback to the sport but he still wanted to do this to ensure “a better quality of life.”

After his surgery, Murray posted a picture of himself lying on the hospital bed with the following statement, “I underwent he hip surgery in London on Monday. Feeling a bit battered and bruised but hope that this will be the end of my hip pain. I now have a metal hip as you can see in photo 2 and in the photo 1 I seem to have a little bit of the gut.”

Murray suffered the thrilling five-set defeat against Roberto Bautista Agut during their first round match of the Australian Open earlier this month.

Murray also underwent hip surgery last year in Melbourne and made a return to the tour at Queen’s lat June where he again pulled out of the Wimbledon. Since then he has only played 15 professional matches.
