Australian Open; Petra Kvitova and Naomi Osaka to contest in the final

Petra Kvitova and US Open Champion Naomi Osaka both managed to set a meeting against each other for the Saturday’s final after they won their respective semifinals matches on Thursday morning of the Australian Open.

Kvitova managed to defeat her opponent Danielle Collins by 7-6 and 6-0 while Naomi Osaka managed to defeat the opponent Karolina Pliskova by 6-2, 4-6, and 6-4 in the last minute.

Qualifying for a Grand Slam final is a major thing for Kvitova as this is her major achievement in two years after she had to undergo surgery for her hand, having been the victim of a ferocious knife attack.

Kvitova said, “I don’t think that many people believed that I could do it once more; to stand on the court and play the tennis of the highest level. It was just a few of them who believed in me and I am very happy for those few around me.  It definitely feels great and I hope for them as well and for my family and everyone who was there when I needed them.”

Kvitova in her career has won the Wimbledon twice and the most recent win was back in 2014 and now she is looking to claim her third Grand Slam title. She added to her statement, “it has been five years and that is why I worked hard to be back here. It tastes great.”

A for Naomi Oka she managed to enter her second Grand Slam final after her last year’s US Open event.

In her match against Karolina Pliskova, Osaka fired 56 winners past her.  Pliskova herself managed to enter the semifinals after defeating Serena Williams.

Osaka and Kvitova will now contest each other on the Saturday’s final of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park.
