Bob Cousy, legend of Boston Celtics receives residential Medal of Freedom at age 91 from US President Donald Trump

The legend of the NBA team Boston Celtics named Bob Cousy rejoiced the Presidential Medal of Freedom from US President Donald Trump on last Thursday afternoon.

During the acceptance speech conducted at the Oval Office, the Hall of Famer said, “It is a very special occasion for two reasons. This award allows me to join one of the most exclusive clubs on the planet and secondly, it is being awarded to me by the most exceptional president I have seen in my lifetime and I am a B.R. before Roosevelt.”

91 years old Cousy played in NBA for 14 seasons and 13 of these seasons; he played with Boston Celtics and helped them win 6 of the NBA titles. Back in 1957, Cousy won the award for being the NBA’s Most Valuable Player. He also led the league for 8 seasons in a row for lead in assists.

During his 924 career games, Cousy had an average of 18.4 points along with 7.5 assists per game.

After he was done with his professional career, Cousy went to Boston College for coaching and even has an award named to his name. The award is titled “the Bob Cousy Award” and this award is given to the country’s point guard in the top place for the collegiate level basketball of men’s division.

Cousy coached the NBA team Kansas City and Cincinnati and was added to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame back in 1971.

The award given to Cousy, Presidential Medal of Freedom, is the highest of the civilian awards that is given to a certain person who has stood out in the country for the contributions made in the interest of nation and security, world peace, public or private affairs.

Cousy is the 2nd player to have received the Presidential Medal of Freedom this year. The first one was Tiger Woods who received his award back in May. Cousy’s award marks him as the 10th recipient of the award in Trump administration.
