CONCACAF Gold Cup; Mexico wins over US by 1-0

The US men’s soccer team showed exactly how far behind they are when compared to women’s soccer team.

Hours later the US women’s soccer team won their 4th title of the World Cup, the men of the US team were not able to match their intensity against Mexico at the final of CONCACAF Gold Cup which Mexico won by 1-0 on Sunday night.

Mexico was led by Jonathan Dos Santos who scored the only goal of the game during the 73rd minute to hand over their Gold Cup title.

Star midfielder of US team Christian Pulisic and their captain Weston McKennie both refused to talk to reporters as they left the Soldier Field.

After reaching the first tournament final as the US coach, Gregg Berhalter said to media, “Over the course of entire 90 minutes of the game, Mexico was a great team. As for what we lacked, I think it was some of our calmness and some was our composure.”

Pulisic was the best player for the US with his speed and cutting abilities to create chances for goal but he barely even touched the ball during the 2nd half of the game. He still was awarded the award for being the Best Young Player of the tournament as he scored 3 goals and had 3 assists.

Gregg Berhalter said of Pulisic, “His contribution for this team and this entire tournament were great. He was great on both sides of the ball and also off the field.”

As for McKennie who was given the captain’s armband for the very first time since his impressive performance in the season of Bundesliga with Schalke, but he proved rather ineffective in the match.

Gregg Berhalter said of McKennie, “I am not going to comment on his individual performance.”

The qualifying rounds for the 2022 World Cup will not start until the summer of next year which will give the championships of the Central and North America as well as the Caribbean to be measured first.
