Copa América; Brazil wins over Peru to lift the Copa América trophy for the 1st time since 2007

Brazil was not in need of Neymar to win themselves a Copa América trophy at a game played in their home.

With their injured star player watching the finals game from the crowd paced Maracanã Stadium held on Sunday night, Brazil was able to beat Peru by 3-1 to lift their 1st Copa América trophy since 2007.

The team was led to their victory by the replacement player in place of Neymar named Everton. He scored 1st goal of the team and set up another for the team player to score to let Brazil have their 9th Copa América trophy and their 5th at home.

Other two goals for Brazil were scored by Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison. Brazil has a record now to have won every Copa América tournament which they have hosted in the past.

Everton said, “I gave it everything to the game I had today.”  For his efforts, Everton was awarded as the Player of the Final and also finished being the top scorer of the tournament with 3 goals.

Tite, Brazil’s coach said of Everton, “Who would have had thought of this that Everton would be playing in the final and he would also be named the Man of the Match.”

As for Neymar, he had been ruled out of the tournament due to his ankle injury. He sat beside his son and the Jair Bolsonaro, the president of Brazil as well as the crowd of 70000 spectators at the Maracanã Stadium.

Ricardo Gareca, Peru’s coach said, “Brazil deserves this victory. We also played much better than we played in the previous match. We have also improved as a team. We still need to make more improvement but we are also on the right track of it.”

Per was trying to win their first Copa América title since 1975 as they were never able to make it to the finals of the South Americana tournament since 1975.
