Cordina VS Townend: Joe Cordina wins over Andy Townend and adds British lightweight title to his Commonwealth crown

The Saturday night boxing fight between Joe Cordian and Any Townend held at O2 ended with Cordian stopping Townend in the 6th round as he added the British lightweight title to his already held Commonwealth belt.

The experience rival, Townend was outclassed by Cordian form the opening round as he dropped the Barnsley boxer in the76th round 3 times. With this win, Cordina has now extended his winning streak to 9 matches with 7 knockout wins.

Cordina, the Welshman said, “it is a prestigious belt to have. The world title is my main goal to win but this is at the time the title I need to win to get to that.”

He further said, “Townend was not going to bring anything new that I have not seen before. Still, he is a tough fighter and he can really whack. However, he could not land any one of them tonight.”

In the ladies Bantamweight bout between Shannon Courtenay against Roz Mari Silyanova, Courtenay won over Silyanova for her 2nd win in 4 weeks on points.

25 years old bantamweight, Courtenay from Watford made her boxing debut back on last month at the Copper Box. She again showed that impressive performance as she won every round against her Bulgarian opponent.

The fight between Nikita ‘White Chocolate’ Ababiy VS Dimitri Faltin on Saturday night ended with a KO win for Ababiy. This was the first time since Ababiy’s UK debut that he was pushed past the first round for a win.

 

Ababiy previously won all of his 3 career fights in the first round with KO. However, he still punched Faltin with body shots and left him with a bloodied nose in the first round.

Faltin was dropped to the floor by the Brooklyn Middleweight superstar in the 2nd round after Ababiy landed a straight right-hand punch. At that point, referee waved the fight off. After that fight ended, Faltin got back on his feet unsteadily.
