Dan Evans secured opening match for Great Britain against Uzbekistan in Davis Cup

Dan Evans secured the win for the Great Britain in his first rubber playoff match for the Davis Cup against Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in a thrilling five set match.

Dan has been applying his first game for Great Britain after his 1 year ban from the sport following his drug use. Dan managed to win the match by 7-6, 4-6, 6-0 and 7-5 in a four hour tension filled match held at Glasgow on Friday.

Evans sad to media, It is good to be back in Glasgow. We have had many good ties here in Glasgow. To play this match which can be possibly the last tie match is a great honor so thank you all for that.”

He further said to media, “it has certainly been very tough. Everyone who supported me and has been behind my back since the time I started this sport, I can only thank them. Days like today don’t happen every day. Who knows if I am going to make it into the team next time or not? So I am going to enjoy my time here.”

Evans won a tough opening match against the world no. 60 Istomin who is a seasoned player of the Davis Cup and was playing the 75th match of his career in this competition.

Istomin is a seasoned player who also won a match against the current world Champion Novak Djokovic last year in a five set match held at Australian Open.
