Davis VS Ruiz; Gervonta Davis retains WBA super-featherweight title with first-round knockout of Hugo Ruiz

The undefeated Gervonta Davis was able to retain his WBA Super-Featherweight title against his fight with champion Hugo Ruiz with a first-round knockout.

The fight was taking place in front of a crowd of 8048 spectators at the Dignity Health Sports Park in California, as the referee Jack Reiss stopped the fight.

The match was stopped with only 2 minutes and 29 seconds into the fight as Davis floored the Mexican veteran fighter Ruiz on to the floor with a bombardment of punches.

Ruiz was the last minute replacement for Davis whose original contender, the three-division champion Abner Mares withdrew from the fight last month due to an eye injury.

Davis’ promoter Floyd Mayweather was sitting at ringside as he observed the 24 years old extend his record to 21-0 with 20 KOs.

On the other hand, Ruiz’ compatriot, Rey Vargas was able to successfully defend his WBC World Super Bantamweight title in his fight against the Venezuelan fighter Franklin Manzanilla.

As for Alberto Machado VS Andrew Cancio fight, Machado lost his WBA secondary super featherweight belt to his American opponent.
