Daytona sports car race; Pole-winning car catches fire at Rolex 24

At Daytona Saturday night race, the fortunes of Mazda took a bad turn twice when the team’s both DPis suffered the same problem within 15 minutes time span.

First their no. 55, who was running for a fifth in the International Horseshoe when the drive Olivier Pla reported tot eh crew about an explosion in the rear end of the car. Pla then recycled the electronics and went straight to the garage.

This problem was determined to be a fuel leak which was repaired shortly after. Pla returned to the race with three laps down.

Moments after Pla went into the race, their no. 77 Timo Bernhard stopped when he was in second place in the race when a fire in the engine compartment broke. He leaped out of the car.
