Elias Pettersson; NHL rookie leader suffers injury in awkward collision

Elias Pettersson;  Vancouver Canucks runaway rookie leader scored a Hat Trick on the Wednesday night game and he also learned that he will now be heading to lead the NHL All-Star Game. However, his second night did not go too well.

Pettersson had to leave the ice in immense pain during h second period of the game against the Montreal Canadiens. Pettersson tangled up with the Canadiens’ rookie Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

20 years old Pettersson was checking Kotkaniemi from behind the net. He skated out of the back and into the zone when he was hooked by Kotkaniemi.

After Pettersson turned on this hook, both players’ legs tangled up with each other and they fell down awkwardly. Pettersson suffered major damage as his knee and ankle both came under his own weight. He tried to get up but was forced to lie down fat on ice due to immense pain.

Pettersson had to remain on ice for several minutes before he was able to get back up with help. He was still able to skate off the ice barely. Kotkaniemi came to him to know if he was doing OK.

Pettersson later tweeted that he would not be coming back for the game because of his injured lower body.

Canucks coach Travis Green told media after the game, “it was not a dirty play by the players at all.”

 

Pettersson earlier this season had already missed six games after he suffered a concussion. He entered in the Thursday night’s game with the team’s best of 20 goals and 42 points.

Coach revealed that Pettersson despite not playing will still remain with the team on the trip.
