French Open; Karolina Pliskova out in the third round match

The second-seeded player, Karolina Pliskova was defeated at the third round match of the French Open by her Croatian opponent Petr Martic by 6-3 and 6-3.

Pliskova entered the French Open after winning her career’ biggest clay court title back in Rome but this was still not her best surface and her defeat did not come as a shock to many.

As for her opponent, Martic, who is currently ranked world no. 31, has more clay court wins than any other player at this tournament. She has won the Istanbul title in the past as well as has reached the semi-finals of the tournament in Charleston.

With high profile names like Pliskova and Angelique Kerber getting ousted for the tournament top half, it’s now turning for the bottom half of the main draw which includes the sole Briton player Johanna Konta.

Konta will be bidding her chances of making it to the 4th round as he plays against Viktoria Kuzmova.

As for Pliskova Czech compatriot Marketa Vondrousova, she was able to reach the last 16 by defeating the 28th seeded Carla Suarez Navarro by 6-4 and 6-4.

Vondrousova will next face the 12th seeded Anastasija Sevastova who earlier defeated Elsie Mertens by 6-7, 6-4 and 11-9. Both players dueled it out against each other in a 3-hour and 18 minutes long match on the Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

For the former champion Garbine Muguruza, the tournament was a good one as she reaches the 4th round for the record 6th time in her career with her 6-3 and 6-3 win over the 9th seeded Elina Svitolina.
