Geneva Open; Zverev advances while Dimitrov is ousted from the tournament

Alexander Zverev, the top-seeded player in the Geneva Open was able to gain an easy victory over his opponent Ernests Gulbis by 6-2 and 6-1 on Tuesday during the first round match.

Zverev, the world rank no 5 is looking to secure his first title win of the 2019 season as he saved eight of his 9 break points against the world rank 80 Gulbis.




As for the former world rank no, 3 Grigor Dimitrov, he had to earlier win the qualifiers and was allocated a wild card to compete in the main draw., however, the luck was not on his side as he lost the first round match against Federico Delbonis by 1-6, 6-4 and 6-2.

After suffering a shoulder injury, Dimitrov’s ranking has fallen to him now being at no. 47.

In other matches, Damir Dzumhur, who also made it through the qualifiers, won over the wildcard entry Feliciano Lopez by 6-7, 6-4 and 7-5 for the first round match. Next, Dzumhur is going to play against the 2nd seeded player Stan Wawrinka.

As for the 6th seeded Adrian Mannarino, he lost his match against Albert Ramos-Vinolas by 6-7, 6-3 and 6-2.
