Halle Open; Federer advances to semis while Zverev crashes

Roger Federer seems to be on a right course as he chases his 10th Halle Open title this week as he secured a hard neared victory of the quarterfinals while playing Roberto Bautista Agut.

Prior to winning the match against Bautista Agut by 6-3, 4-6 and 6-4, Federer had to also earn the hard-fought three-set victory against Tsonga in the quarterfinals.

The world rank no. 3 Federer is looking to secure his third title win of the year as he now faces the world rank no. 43 Pierre-Hugues Herbert for the semis of the grass-court tournament.

Herbed, who is going to be partnered with Andy Murray in the Wimbledon’s Doubles, made it to the semis after the defending champion and the 4th seeded player Borna Coric had to withdraw in the first set due to injury.

Earlier on the day, Alexander Zverev was handed out a shocking quarterfinals defeat by David Goffin, thus giving a major blow to his Wimbledon training.

The world ranked no. 5 Zverev, who is also the runner up of the Halle Open two times in the past got defeated by the world rank no. 33 Goffin by 6-3, 1-6 and 7-6.

The 2nd seeded Zverev had to withdraw from tournament’s doubles event due to knee problem earlier this week. This is Zverev first defeat against Belgium’s former world rank no. 7 Goffin.

As for Goffin, he will play against Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in the semis. Berrettini, who won the Stuttgart Open last week, extended his 8 match win streak by defeating Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals by 6-2 and 7-6.
