Halle Open; Federer makes it to the quarterfinals of the tournament

Roger Federer was pushed to his limits in a match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the Halle Open but he came on top to win it by 7-6, 4-6 and 7-5 to make it to the quarterfinal of the grass-court tournament. He is bidding to win his record 10th title on the grass-court tournament.

37 years old Federer who has made it to the quarterfinals of the Halle Open for the 17th time is going to play next against Roberto Bautista Agut who earlier defeated French player Richard Gasquet by 6-1 and 6-4.

As for the world rank no. 5 Alexander Zverev, the runner up for the 2016 and 2017 Halle Open, who is looking to win his first ever Halle Open title, won his match against Steve Johnson to set up the quarterfinals’ match against the unseeded player David Goffin.

Zverev, who had to withdraw from the doubles matches suffering from a knee problem, said, “I am really happy with the way things went for me. My knee is still swollen but the pain of it is much less as compared from what it was a few days ago. I hope that when the swelling subsides, the pain will too.”

In other matches of the day, Italy’s Matteo Berrettini defeated his fellow countrymen Andreas Seppi by 6-3 and 6-2 as he seeks to win his third ATP title and his second on the grass-court tournament after winning the Stuttgart Open last week.

Up next, he will face the Russian player Karen Khachanov, whom Berrettini removed in the 2nd round of the Stuttgart Open.
