ICC World Cup England VS West Indies; England beat Windies with 8-wicket win

In the ICC world cup match between England vs. West Indies, Joe Root led England with his century and Jofra Archer got 3 wickets to lead the team’s first win against Windies. With this win, the injury riddle England has now won 3 of their last 4 games of the tournament with an amazing 80-wicket win at Southampton.




Root scored 100 runs off of 94 balls and stood not out as he scored his second century of this world cup. He last scored 107 runs in England match against Pakistan which they won by 213 runs with 101 balls to spare.

Root has become the 2nd English player to have scored 2 centuries in a same World Cup tournament with the first being Kevin Pietersen who scored centuries for England in their matches against Australia and West Indies back in the 2077 World Cup.

The heavy hitter from Windies side, Chris Gayle and Andre Russell were dropped early on in the innings as they made mere 36 and 21 runs. Windies only managed to set a target chase of mere 212 runs with their bets performer being Nicholas Pooran with his 63 runs.

Archer got 3 wickets by giving away 30 runs as he dropped wickets of Pooran and Sheldon Cottrell with his successive deliverers. Mark Wood also got 3 wickets as he gave away only 18 runs.

English fans were expecting the worst when Wood had earlier been cleared for play after undergoing ankle tests. As for the Jamaican player Gayle, he was attacked by a short ball delivery from Liam Plunkett and then caught by Bairstow on the square leg boundary. After the heavy hitters of Windies getting removed, the whole of the team was dropped in mere 4 overs. As for England, they made short work of the Windies on their way to win the match.
