ICC World Cup South Africa VS Afghanistan; South Africa beats Afghanistan to keep semis hope alive

In a World Cup contest between South African and Afghanistan held in Cardiff, South Africa made short work of the Afghan team as they kept their hopes for the semi-finals alive.

South Africans were on fire as soon as the match started once again after a short rain delay with Imran Tahir getting 4 wickets while giving away 29 runs and Andile Phehlukwayo getting 2 wickets while giving away 18 runs as they caused the Afghan team to be at 69-2 at first and then to be at 77-7.

It was not after Rashid Khan came to score 35 runs off of 25 deliveries before the whole team getting bowled pout at a target of 125 runs.

Earlier South Africa had not been doing too well in the tournament as they lost their early 3 matches and suffered a washout against the Windies but managed to easily complete the chase target of 127 runs in mere 28.4 overs to complete the 9-wicket victory.

Quinton de Kock with his 68 runs was the top scorer of the team as he completed a 104-run partnership with Hashim Amla who scored 41 runs off of 83 deliveries and was not out.

With this win, South Africa has now moved from being 9th on the point table to being 7th. They are currently above Pakistan and Bangladesh. If they want to make it to the top 4 of the point table, they need to win their all remaining 4 matches against Pakistan, New Zealand, Australia, and Sri Lanka.

As for Afghanistan, they are currently hanging at the low bottom with them still hoping to score a point. Their below low batting performance has caused them to be defeated for the 4th time in a row as they now head to face England at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

As for South Africa, they are now going to hope for back-to-back wins with their first match against unbeaten New Zealand on Wednesday to be held at Edgbaston.
