ITF announces new measures for anti-corruption

The ITF (The International Tennis Federation) has said that they will now phase out a collection for the live data at small events as a part for fighting against corruption.

This collection of information will not be made available to the WTT (World Tennis Tour) event that are offering prize sum of up to 15000 dollars.

ITF, the governing body of the sport also announced the news about making an investment for about 8 million dollars that will be for creating an infrastructure for the compressive integrity.

This move from ITF comes after a recommendation made in December of last year by IRP (International Review Panel) to address the issues of betting and other integrity manners.

David Haggerty, the President of ITF said in his statement, “Our commitment to protecting the integrity of the World Tennis Tour is paramount. The scale of this project is unprecedented. We are confident that it will deliver real benefits for all participants and will contribute to the trend of reducing corruption risk seen in 2019.”

Several other measures were also announced by ITF like the accreditation for the WTT events, video recordings, increased security measures as well as better channels for reporting the concerns of integrity.

Chair of the Tennis Integrity Supervisory Board, Jenny Price said, “Detailed work on implementation of the recommendation has made it clear how important it will be to ensure that official data is not simply replaced by unofficial data. The enhanced security and accreditation processes… are essential to ensure that the playing environment is properly protected and the opportunities for unofficial data collection are minimised.”
