Joshua vs. Ruiz Jr.: Andy Ruiz Jr. defeats Anthony Joshua in a stunning New York fight

In the heavyweight fight between Andy Ruiz Jr. VS Anthony Joshua held at the Madison Square Garden last week, Anthony Joshua suffered a shocking defeat at hands of his opponent.

Joshua in this fight was floored nearly 4 times and was defeated in mere 7 rounds in a result which is a great surprise in the history of boxing.

Joshua, who is previously the unbeaten holder of the IBF, WBO and WBA titles lost all of his titles in this fight and also suffered a major setback for his plan to dominate the heavyweight division from fighters like Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.

Joshua’s heavyweight reign started to crumble during the 3rd round. He appeared to be in control at first after he floored Ruiz Jr., with a left hook but was also caught by his punch that sent Joshua to floor for the first time in his career since his fight with Wladimir Klitschko held at Wembley.

Joshua managed to stand up but had wobbly legs as Ruiz Jr. pounced at him and sent him down on the canvas once more. Joshua again stood up and was barely saved by the end of the round bell.

Never getting recovered from the previous damage, Ruiz Jr. made him a pouching bag as he targeted his lower body in the 6th round.

Ruiz Jr. let go of his hands during the 7th as he landed a huge overhand right punch to his opponent’s face making him crash for the 3rd time in the fight. While it was of no use, Joshua stood back up only to be floored for the 4th and final time with no more strength to defend himself.

This shocking defeat made the audience remember the infamous defeat of Mike Tyson against Buster Douglas back in 1990 or Lennox Lewis’s loss to Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman.

Following the end of the fight, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has also signaled an intention for a rematch sometime later this year.
