Jusuf Nurkic of Trail Blazers suffers compound fractures of left leg in the game against Brooklyn Nets

Jusuf Nurkic, the big man of the Portland Trail Blazers had to be taken off the court on a stretcher after he suffered compound fractures on Monday night of his left tibia and the fibula. The injury happened in Trail Blazers game against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night.

With 2:22 minutes left for the second half of the game on Monday night, Nurkic missed his attempt of a putback shot which ended him landing awkwardly on his own left leg.

This resulted in his leg to bend in a gruesome manner. A foul was then called on the play and players of both teams called out for their trainers. Some of them sprinted right away notice the gravity of the injury.

The injury happened to be so gruesome that the first people to arrive on the scene draped a towel over Nurkic’s leg to cover it from the view of the crowd and camera. His leg was then placed in an air cast and was then stretchered off the court. There was no news about Nurkic from thereon but it is sure that he will be missing out the remainder of the season.

According to Terry Stotts, the Blazers coach, the injury was ‘devastating’.

As trainers and teammates of Blazers gathered around Nurkic, the crowd at the stadium started to chant “Jusuf Nurkic” in their attempt to show support. The injury also resulted in piles of messages from other NBA players for Nurkic.

Damian Lillard talking about the injury said, “It made me sick to my stomach as I walked over there. I saw everyone else turning away and walking real quick from there. I looked and saw his leg.”

As for Trail Blazers, they went on to win the game by 148-144 against the Nets to clinch the playoff spot.
