Katie Swan is now one match away from the main draw of French Open

Katie Swan won her 2nd round math for the qualifying rounds of the French Open against Chinese player Wang Xiyu on Thursday. She is now only 1 match away for being qualified for the main draw of the French Open.

Earlier on Wednesday, 20 years old Swan presented one of her best career performances when she won over the 2nd seeded Jil Teichmann by straight sets despite being 121 ranks below the Swiss.

She again showed the same grit in her Thursday’s match as she won the match despite losing the 2nd set by love to win the game by 6-4, 0-6 and 7-5.

For the final round of the qualifier, Swan will now face the Kristina Kucova of Slovakia. Swan the current world rank 208 is bidding to make it to the first main draw of a Grand Slam tournament out of Wimbledon.

As for her fellow countrywoman, Heather Watson, she suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the second round after being defeated by Greek player Valentini Grammatikopoulou.

24 years old Watson, who has reached the French Open’s main draw for 8 times, won the first qualifying round but lost the 2nd round match in the final set after 2 hours and 44 minutes long match.
