Liverpool wins over Porto by 2-0 to have a lead in Champions League

The round might be different but the comfortable win was the same for Liverpool.  Porto must now be sick of the sight of Liverpool in the Champions League by now.




Liverpool with a 2-0 win over the Porto managed to get a lead in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals. Their 2 goals on the night were scored in the first half by Naby Keita as well as Roberto Firmino on Tuesday at Anfield.

One year ago, Liverpool defeated Porto by 5-0 on the same last 16s match, Liverpool got the same amazing joy after defeating Portugal. Keita scored his goal in the 5th minute of the game as his strike came over the corner off Oliver Torres, the Porto midfielder.

Keita who has been moved to Liverpool from Leipzig during the offseason had earlier failed to score in his 27 matches but has now scored back to back goals in the last 2 matches.

Liverpool had more than enough chances to score more goals but Muhammad Salah wasted the best of those chances as he pounced after the back passes. Porto also had chances to score goals during the first half but Liverpool held of their threats of scoring goals.

Juergen Klopp said, “This is positively good. W won by 2-0 and we controlled the game tonight as well as its direction. We knew that we had to play a second game and we cannot afford ourselves a tie tonight.”

As for Salah, he must consider himself lucky to be still available for Porto in the 2nd leg that will play on April 17th. He narrowed escaped the punishment for his action of hanging his left boot on the shin of Danilo during the final minutes of the game.

As for Liverpool, they will also be getting a huge boost after Andrew Robertson; their left back makes a return after serving his suspension.
