Lyon ends its winless streak by winning over Leipzig in the Champions League game

Lyon had a poor start for this season of the Champions League as they have been on a 7-game losing streak. However, all of that changed in their game of Champions League against Leipzig which they won by 2-0. With this, their winless streak comes officially to an end.

Memphis Depay and Martin Terrier both scored one goal each in 1st and second half respectively to hand the club their first win since they got defeated by Angers by 6-0. Their losing streak started on August 16th for the second-round game.

From Leipzig’s side, the bounders were made both times on the defense as they were handed their 2nd defeat in a row at home in the last 5 days. As for Schalke, they ended the unbeaten start of Leipzig last week with their 3-1 win in the Bundesliga game.

Leipzig had an easy chance to score a goal but the striker Timo Werner missed his chance early on in the game before the first goal of Lyon was struck in the 11th minute. Following some good work from Lyon’s Aouar Houssem, he was able to take the ball from rival team’s Ibrahima Konaté while Dayot Upamecano was not able to stop him. This allowed for Depay to get a pass from Houssem to move it into the net past the Leipzig’s goalkeeper named Peter Gulacsi.

It seemed that Werner was having a bad day as he missed another chance to strike a goal during the 23rd minute. Werner made a shot on the open net from the close range while the goalkeeper of Lyon went for the ground but the ball, unfortunately, went over the net. As for Depay, his shot for another goal was ruled out to be an offside one before the first half came to an end.  Whistles were blown toward Leipzig dejected players from the home crowd.

The manager of Leipzig, Nagelsmann then brought in Emil Forsberg to add in some fresh energy into the game’s 2nd half while Marcel Sabitzer took a shot at his luck during the 62nd minute from close range. Still, it was Lyon who was able to take a goal in the 65th minute.

This has been the worst losing streak for Lyon since they lost 8 games in a row back in 1996.
