Madrid Open; Simona Halep wins with double bagel against Viktoria Kuzmova

Simona Halep in her match against Viktoria Kuzmova managed to win with a double bagel at the Madrid Open.

Halep, the world rank no. 3 who is also the two-time winner of the Madrid Open defeated Kuzmova by 6-0 and 6-0 as the 20 years old Slovakian player managed to get only 12 points.

Halep, the Romanian player said, “I played perfectly today. I think this was the best match that I have ever played.”

Next, the winner of the French Open, Halep will play against the Australian player Ashleigh Barty in their quarterfinals match after Barty defeated Yulia Putintseva by 4-6, 6-1 and 6-2.

As for the world rank no. 1 Naomi Osaka she defeated the Belarusian player Aliaksandra Sasnovich by 6-2 and 6-3.  In other matches of the event, the last year’s runner up Kiki Bertens defeated the 12th seeded player Anastasija Sevastova by 6-1 and 6-2.

Up next, Osaka will be playing against the Swiss player Belinda Bencic for their quarterfinals match.

Osaka said, “I think I played really well today. I knew that I have to play great today because I have played against her twice and both those time were on hard courts. I did not know what to expect today rather than a victory so I just tried to remain focus against her. I am in a really good place right now. I feel like I am finally having fun again as I play tennis. This is a good thing for me because if I enjoy it is well suited for my mentality.”

As for the second-seeded Petra Kvitova, who is also the defending champion, she defeated Caroline Garcia by 6-3 and 6-3 while Sloane Stephens defeated Saisai Zheng.
