Manny Pacquiao says, ‘I can still beat ‘great boxers’ like Keith Thurman at the age of 40′

Manny Pacquiao in his recent run-in with the media said that age is not going to be a hindrance for him, when he faces Keith Thurman for his WBA Superwelterweight title in a fight that is to be held on July 20th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena located in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao, who is the only boxer to have competed in the 8 divisions of the boxing history and is now 40 years old, has a career record of 61-7-2 with 39 knockout wins.




The 12-time title winner who is also a politician and an acting senator in the Philippines had his last fight against Adrien Broner back in January. Pacquiao won the fight with a unanimous points decision.

In a press conference ahead of his fight with Thurman, Pacquiao said to media, “I choose Keith Thurman because he is an undefeated fighter and I also want to prove that at age 40 I can beat a great fighter like him”.

Pacquiao further said, “My time in boxing is not over yet. My journey is continuing and I am going to prove it and a little more on July 20th when I defeat Keith. I have never been scared of any challenge. I am really excited about this fight against an undefeated champion.”

As for Thurman, he is 10 years younger than Pacquiao and is currently undefeated with a career record of 29-0 with 22 Knockout wins.

His last fight was against Josesito Lopez back in January which took place in New York which was his first fight after his 22 months long absence after elbow surgery.
