Markus Beye; Former WBC super-middleweight world champion died at age 47

Markus Beyer; Former WBC super-middleweight world champion died at the game of 47 years old in Berlin.

According to the reports of German media, Beyer passed away at a Berlin Hospital on Monday. He died after he contracted a short but serious ailment.

Beyer as an amateur boxer won one Bronze medal after he boxed in two Olympic Games. He won the bronze medal in 1995 World Championships. The very same year he also turned pro.

Beyer was known by his nickname “Boom Boom” and won his first three WBC world titles in 1999. He became the Super Middleweight Champion after defeating Richie Woodhall at the Telford Ice Rink but last the belt in a defensive fight against Glenn Cathy.

The German Southpaw back in 2003 defeated Eric Lewis to win back his old belt. Beye ended his professional boxing career with a record of 35-3-1 which included 13 Knockouts.




Ulli Wenger, Beyer’s former coach released a statement, “I cannot describe my feelings of grief and sadness with words alone. Everyone knows that he was my favorite athlete and above a human component. Marcus Beyer was thoroughly a fine human being. At this moment I feel like someone has struck me in the gut. I have to process all of this at first”.
