Martin Bakole gets 5th round stoppage victory over Kevin Johnson in Newcastle

In the fight between Martin Bakole and Kevin Johnson held in Newcastle, Bakole got the fifth-round stoppage win against his American opponent.

The heavyweight from Scotland had to fight the replacement of the preplanned opponent Gabriel Enguema who got injured. Bakole had to fight hard to break the resistance of the boxer renowned for his resistance in the ring. Still, he was able to maintain a continuous pressure on the veteran American from the 1st round to become the 3rd boxer who stopped the 40 years old Johnson in his career.

Last year, Johnson as able to take the fight to distance Daniel Dubois but ended up with a loss in a points decision. However, in this fight, his usual fighting spirit seemed to be brought down a peg by Bakole as he was in a defensive shell for most of the fight.

He tried to take chances of dolling out a cluster of punches in the 2nd but by the 3rd round, the former world title challenger started showing signs of distress following a continuous attacking form from Bakole. By the 4th round, Bakole had dominated the fight on both cards and in the ring.

Johnson had to let go of his right guard following a jolt to his head from a succession of punches unleashed over his head by Bakole that forced the referee to intervene. The fight was then called off signaling Bakole’s win.

On the same fighting bill, the fight between Lawrence Osueke and Ricky Summers ended in a draw over decision points.

One judge gave Osueke the score of 100-92, with second in favor of Summers giving 96-95 and the final judge scoring the fight an equal 95-95 to call it a draw.

Another fight of the fight between Kieron Conway and Konrad Stempkowski saw Conway knocking his opponent down for a unanimous points win.
