Miami Open; Serena Williams pulls out of the tournament after a knee injury

Serena Williams, the former world no. 1 has pulled out of the Miami Open after she suffered a left knee injury.

This is the 2nd straight WTA tournament in which the 8-time champion Serena Williams has not been able to continue. She earlier took an early out from the last week’s Indian Wells tournament after contracting a viral illness.




The f0rmer world no. 1 said, “I am disappointed to be withdrawing from the Miami Open due to a knee injury. I hope to be making a comeback to this one of a kind amazing tournament next year in front of all the amazing fans of Miami.”

23 times Grand Slam champion was set to face the Chinese no. 1 Wang Qiang for their last 32 third-round match. However, with Serena pulling out, Qiang will get a bye to the 4th round.

Wang earlier defeated Johanna Konta in their second-round match.
