Mitchell Starc grabs 5 wickets as Australia has an 86-run win over New Zealand

Mitchell Starc was the star for Australia in their match against the New Zealand as he grabbed 5 wickets of the Black Hats in team’s 86-run win at Lord’s.

In a rematch between the two teams for the 2015 finals, Trent Boult was able to claim his hat-trick of the world cup this year that left Australia at a mark of 24 runs for the Black hats to chase. However, New Zealand was not able to capitalize on this advantage and paid the price of it with their defeat.

Boult was able to take down Aaron Finch at his 8 runs; while Lockie Ferguson at his first ball of the over took out David Warner on a catch out after making 16 runs.

Off the delivery by Ferguson, mark Guptil was able to catch out Steve Smith who only scored 5 runs. Marcus Stoinius, who made 21 runs, was also ousted on the delivery by Ferguson making Australia stand at the mark of 92-5.

It was not until the Usman Khawaja, who scored 88 runs, and Alex Carey, who scored 71 runs, to hold on for the 6th wicket partnership of 107 runs. Unfortunately, their parenthesis was broken after a loose shot from Carey on delivery from Kane Williamson was sent straight into the hands of Mark Guptil.

Boult has become the first player in the history of New Zealand to have scored a hat-trick as he took out Mitchell Star, Jason Behrendorff and Usman Khawaja.

As for the bowling side of Australia, they found their first breakthrough of the innings during the 10th over when Henry Nicholls took out Finch, who only scored 8 runs, with a catch out on delivery from Behrendorff.

Next was Guptil to be taken out after making 20 runs by Behrendorff while the ace of the Black hats, Kane Williamson got taken care of by Carey as New Zealand stood at 97-3.

Their hopes to take back the match were down the drain during a devastating 30-minute game time which saw Ross Taylor being taken out after 30 runs, Colin de Grandhomme at 0 and Tom Latham by scoring mere 7 runs.

With this defeat, New Zealand is now pressured to not have their players any rest on their training as they are now going to play their last group game against England on Wednesday at Emirates Riverside.
