Nadal makes an impressive rally to win against Medvedev at the ATP Finals

In the ATP Finals match between Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev, Nadal was down by 5-1 in the third set but then he made once in a thousand comebacks to turn the match all around and win against the Russian tennis star.

Nadal was able to save the match point at 5-1 with his perfect drop and then made a rally to beat Medvedev by 6-7, 6-3 and 7-6 which allowed him to stay in the contention for advancing the ATP Finals’ group stage.

Nadal said of his win, “today was one of those days that come out of the 100 you win and that happened for me today. At that moment you think that you will be in the locker room in the next 5 minutes because that is the normal thing. At that moment you do not play under pressure because you have already lost.”

Nadal as looking for his 2nd defeat at the ATP Finals, the season-ending tournament but then he won 5 games in a row to force the game in the deciding set. During the tiebreaker, Medvedev missed his routine forehand shot as Nadal sent in a backhand which was wide. The shot was called but the decision as overturned after Nadal challenged it.

With this win, Nadal is 1-1 in the group stage whereas Medvedev has a record of 0-2.

In another match of the same group, Alexander Zverev was able to beat the defending champion of the ATP Finals, Alexander Zverev by 6-3 and 6-2 to have his 2nd win in a row. This win allows for Tsitsipas to have a guaranteed spot in the semifinals.

As for the other 3 players, they also have a chance to advance in the ATP Finals.

Tsitsipas, who has become the first-ever Greek player to have qualified for the ATP Finals, said, “once again it was not only me who was out there but also a whole lot of people who came to support me. This was a crew like situation.”

If Zverev managed to win his match against Medvedev which will be held on Friday, he will advance in the ATP Finals. This is nothing new for Zverev as he had lost the 2nd round-robin match in last year’s ATP Finals before winning the tournament.
