Nature Valley International in Eastbourne; Karolina Pliskova lifts the trophy by defeating Angelique Kerber

Karolina Pliskova was able to lift the trophy of the Nature Valley Classic at Eastbourne after defeating eh 2-time Wimbledon Champ, Angelique Kerber by 6-1 and 6-4 in the finals.  This is Pliskova’s second title of the Eastbourne in the last 3 years.

The champion of 20-17’s tournament and the current world rank no. 3 Pliskova made it to the finals without losing more than 3 games in a set and showed her amazing game against the three-time Grand Slam champ, Kerber.

Kerber was broken three times during the 1st set as Pliskova finished the match in her win within 71 minutes.

Up next, the 27 years old Pliskova is going to play in Wimbledon on Monday with her first match being against the world rank no. 103 of China, Zhu Lin.

Pliskova said, “This is going to be a new start and a new beginning. Except me, nobody is going to be thinking about it at Wimbledon. I am just going to forget what was here except the positivity. I am not going to think that everything is going to go as easy as it happened this week. I never had a week like this where I did not lose many matches.”

As for Kerber, she will open her Wimbledon campaign by playing against Tatjana Maria in a match on Tuesday. This was Kerber’s third defeat in Eastbourne but this year she has managed to reach the semi-finals of both of her grass court tournaments in a warm-up for Wimbledon.

As for the men’s tournament, the winner of the title was Taylor Fritz who won over his American countryman Sam Querrey by 6-3 and 6-4 to win his maiden ATP title.

Fritz made it to the finals after defeating the British no. 1 Kyle Edmund in the semifinals match and did not drop serve in 1-hour long match against Querrey.

Next, Taylor Fritz is going to play the first round match of the Wimbledon against Tom Berdych on Monday.
