NHL playoffs- Cody Eakins penalty inspires Sharks vs. Golden Knights

Cody Eakins, the Vegas Golden Knight forwards was able to catch a break after it could be determined in a review whether he deflected the puck with his stick or not.

However, unfortunately for him on Game 7, he ended up costing big for his team when he got ejected during the 3rd quarter after cross-checking Joe Pavelski. After this penalty, the San Jose Sharks were enraged and they laid out a rally that helped them turn their big deficit to win by 5-4 in the overtime by a goal from Barclay Goodrow.

Eakins got the 5 minutes major and game misconduct after he hit the Sharks captain to the chest during a faceoff. Pavelski was also shoved by Paul Stastny as he fell to the ground and hit his head bad.

Pavelski was lying on the ground for a few minutes before he was helped out by the trainers off the ice with his head being covered with towels, as it was bleeding.

Pavelski’s injury fired up his teammates who were before trailing by 3-0 but then scored 4 consecutive goals in the power play.

The first goal was scored by Logan Couture and then the 2nd goal was scored by Tomas Hertl. 3rd was again scored by Couture and with 4 minutes to the powerplay remaining, Kevin LeBlanc scored the 4th goal to give San Jose Sharks a 4-3 lead with 6 minutes to the clock.

The game was tied by Jonathan Marchessault by Vegas Golden Knights at 4-4 which drove the game into overtime.

The game-winning goal was scored by Goodrow as he broke in alone at the Vegas goalie Marc-Andre Fleury after getting a free pass from Erik Karlsson.

With this loss, the hopes for the Golden Knight, who reached the Stanley Cup final last season. Although Gerard Gallant, the head coach of the Knights was sorry at Pavelski’s injury, he still called the penalty uncalled for.
