Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Naomi Osaka; all make a winning start at Indian Wells

Novak Djokovic, the world rank no 1 finally picked up his speed and performance in his second round match against the American opponent Bjorn Fratangelo as he is on his way to win his 74th ATP title at Indian Wells.

Djokovic after winning the match rushed to the stands in order to shake the hands of the 14 times Grand Slam champion Pete Sampras who happens to be an idol of Novak Djokovic. Novak managed to win the match by 7-6 and 6-2.

The 31 years old Serbian player told media, “I was very nervous as I don’t get to see Pete that much often. It is a thrill to see someone who I looked up to as a kid.”

As for the Third seed, Alexander Zverev, he had an easy start of the tournament’s opening match as he defeated his opponent Martin Klizan by 6-3 and 2-0. Martin was forced to retire in the second round after his right ankle injury.

On the women’s event, Venus Williams managed to defeat the third seed opponent Petra Kvitova by 4-6, 7-5 and 6-4.  As for Naomi Osaka, she managed to gain a win over Kristina Mladenovic in straight sets.

Kristina Mladenovic was defeated by 6-3 and 6-4 at hands of the world no. 1 Naomi Osaka. This was kind of a revenge win for Naomi who earlier lost against the very same opponent at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships’ last month in the first round match.

The 21 years old Japanese tennis star said, “I have never been a defending champion before so I was pretty nervous. I am glad that I got this win.”
