Osaka makes it to the quarterfinals of the Pan Pacific Open

Naomi Osaka, the top seed at the Pan Pacific Open was able to beat her third round opponent Viktoriya Tomova by 7-5 and 6-3 to make it to the quarterfinals.

Osaka, who was broken twice but was still able to recover, is now looking to secure her first title win at her hometown after having finished as the runner up back in 2018 and 2016 tournament.

She is next going to face either Yulia Putintseva or Varvara Flink.

As for the 4th seeded Angelique Kerber, she was able to win her match against the American player Nicole Gibbs by 6-2 and 6-4.

Kerber said, “My goal is to fish this year as well as I can. I need to put all my energy in this Asian run and to play great for the next few weeks.”

Kerber is going to play next against Madison keys who bested Zarina Diyas by 5-7, 6-0 and 6-4.

Kerber said of Keys, “I know her very well and I know what to expect from her. It is going to be really interesting. We both know that we have to play best against each other.”

As for Elise Mertens she was also able to reach quarterfinals after defeating Hsieh Su-Wei by 6-3, 1-6, and 6-2.

In the Korean Open, Ekaterina Alexandrova, the 2nd seed of the tournament was able to defeat Kristyna Pliskova 3-6, 6-3, and 6-4 to make it to the quarterfinals.

She is next going to play against Kristie Ahn who earlier defeated Ana Bogdan by 0-6, 6-4 and 7-6.

In other matches of the Korean Open, Magda Linette defeated Anastasia Potapova 7-5, and 7-6 to set a match against Kirsten Flipkens who defeated Margarita Gasparyan 6-3, and 7-5.

In the 3rd round match of Guangzhou International in China, Marie Bouzkova was able to reach quarterfinals after her opponent for 3rd round the top seed of the tournament, Elina Svitolina had to retire due to her right knee pain.
