Premier League; Salah ends his longest goal drought to help Liverpool back to the top

Mohamed Salah managed to choose the perfect moment as he ended the longest goal drought of his career with Liverpool.

His goal helped his team to be back at the top of the Premier League.

Salah, who had been on a barren goal streak for the last 2 months, managed to score his first goal in 9 of his game appearances with Liverpool.  With his help, Liverpool made a comeback to defeat Southampton by 3-1 on Friday night. With this win, Liverpool has gained its first place back and are now 2 points above Manchester City.

The Egyptian forward took the ball 10 meters inside on his won counterattack and sprinted with it to send in a dipping shot through the bottom corner in the 80th minute.

In order to celebrate his goal in front of the overjoyed Liverpool fans, he took off his jersey. The crowd was once again jumping up and down in joy as Jordan Henderson added another goal for the team at the St. Mary’s Stadium.

Although Liverpool has a game in hand they are still not game in action because of them playing in the FA Cup semifinals.

Juergen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool said, “The performance of the team was not top level but it is all about fighting. People want us to play like Manchester City. We cannot do that, we play our own game. We now have 82 points which is crazy to have in this league.  Everyone is now waiting for us. I am really proud of my team. This is incredible.”

As for Southampton, their only goal for the game came in the ninth minute made by Sane Long. This goal actually made Liverpool shaky at the time.

Salah with his now 18 league goals is only one goal short of receiving his Golden Boot for being the top scorer in the league.
