Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic make wining start at French Open, Wozniacki out while Konta progresses

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic both made their bid to win the French Open with winning first-round matches on Monday at Roland Garros.

Djokovic might have lost his chance to win the Rome Masters last week against Nadal but there is a strong chance that he might avenge his defeat.

Both of these men seem to be in high spirits as they both won their matches by straight sets.

Nadal was first to make a statement to every challenger as he chases for his 12th French Open title.

He made short work of his German opponent Yannick Hanfmann I as he defeated him in little over an hour.

With the 6-2, 6-1 and 6-2 victory, Nadal will now face another German player Yannick Maden in the 2ns round.

As for Djokovic, he needed much less time than Nadal to make his own agenda clear after he defeated Hubert Hurkacz by 6-4, 6-2 and 6-2.

Both men are bidding for their chance to lift the La Coupe des Mousquetaires trophy as the tournament concludes in two weeks.

As in the women’s singles main draw, Caroline Wozniacki, the former world no. 1 was not able to hold her ground against her first round opponent Veronika Kudermetova.

Wozniacki, who has been to the quarterfinals of the French Open for the past two times, got beaten by her 22 years old Russian opponent by 0-6, 6-3 and 6-3.

As for the two times Wimbledon Champion, Petra Kvitova, she pulled hours before her first round match against Sorana Cirstea due to a forearm injury.

As the only British female player in the tournament, Johanna Konta made an enjoyable winnings start for her in the first round as she defeated Antonia Lottner by 6-4 and 6-4.

She is going to next face off the American player Lauren Davis who earlier defeated Kristyna Pliskova by 6-2 and 6-4.
