Rafael Nadal beats Diego Schwartzman and makes it to the semifinals of the US Open

Rafael Nadal, who happens to be the favorite at this year’s US Open event, was able to extend his favoritism in crowd’s eye by defeating Diego Schwartzman in straights sets.

Nadal, the world rank no. 2 made the mistake of squandering his leads in both the first and second set that allowed for Schwartzman to make rallies but only to be defeated by the Spaniard each time.

The 20th seeded Argentinean player, Schwartzman was defeat by 6-4, 7-5 and 6-2 in a match held at Arthur Ashe Stadium for 2 hours and 47 minutes allowing for Nadal to move a step closer to winning his 4th title of the US Open.

Up next, Nadal will be playing against Matteo Berrettini who defeated his opponent Gael Monfils in thrilling five sets to make it to his career’s first Grand Slam semifinals.

If Nadal wins this title, he will be only one title short of Federer’s record of 20 Grand Slam singles titles and three titles ahead of Novak Djokovic title wins.

Nadal said, “Although it was straight sets victory, it was still a challenging one. To see yourself losing two breaks in a row was a very difficult thing. But still, I am really happy with the way I accepted this challenge. Now I am in the semifinals and this means everything to me.”

Talking about his semis opponent, he said, “Berrettini? I saw him play. He has big serves along with big forehands and seems super confident. He is making big steps every week this season, so he will be a great challenge. For me, it is a moment to keep on going forward.”

As for the other semifinals match of the US Open, it will be between the fifth-seeded Russian, Daniil Medvedev and Grigor Dimitrov; the former world rank no. 3.
