Rios VS Alvarez; Brandon Rios knockout Ramon Alvarez in 9th round

Brandon Rios has now a clear way to challenge Britain’s Josh Kelly after he knocked out his opponent Ramon Alvarez with a knockout.

‘Rios aka “Bam Bam” was in full action packed mode at the Kansas Star Arena in Wichita on Sunday night as he bombarded one of the Canelo’s six boxing brothers with a  barrage of punches from the first bell.

Rios was already close to stopping Alvarez in the third round and then again and again in sixth and eight rounds, but the Mexican boxer held his ground impressively. The fight however ultimately ended in the ninth round with 38 seconds into the round. A vicious right concluded the fight of Rios vs. Alvarez as the pouch proved too much for the Mexican fighter.

This was Rios’ first fight under Matchroom USA and under promoter Eddie Hearn. Now with this win, there is a clear hint that Rios will be fighting against Kelly in 2019 the former world champion.

However, Kelly is also set to face the former world title challenger David Avanesyan on December 8th.
