Roger Federer confirms his participation in Olympic Games and French Open next year

The veteran tennis star, Roger Federer has confirmed his participation in both the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the French Open next year.

The 38 years old Roger Federer made a return to the famed Roland Garros earlier this summer since his last appearance back in 2016. However, he lost his bid to win the title in the semifinals match against the world rank no. 2 Rafael Nadal.

The Swiss will once again bid for winning the French Open title next year in Paris before he takes his game to the court in Japan for the Olympic Games. Federer lost his chance to compete in the Rio De Janeiro Olympics due to his injury.

In an interview with the media, the world rank no. 3 Roger Federer said, “I will be plying the French open next year. I would probably not be playing much before it because I need some time away. Before playing there, I would need a vacation. So, at the end of the day, my heart has decided that I would love to play again in the Olympic Games. I have been debating this with my team for the past few weeks now, actually for the past few months. We have been discussing as to what should I do in the summer after the Wimbledon and the US Open of 2020.”

Taking about his past experiences of the Olympics, Roger Federer said, “I have carried the Swiss flag twice in Athens and Beijing and I got the gold and silver medals there. I would very much love to play gain there and this is why I am really excited.”

Roger Federer, who has is the winner of 20 Grand Slam tournaments, is going to need the wild card entry for competing in the Tokyo Olympics. The reason is that he did not participate in the Davis Cup this season to make him eligible for the direct entry.

Roger Federer has played in 4 Olympics and he won the Gold medal back in 2000 and then a silver medal in 2012 after he lost the final against Andy Murray of Britain.
