Ronaldo leads Juventus but team still falls short

Cristiano Ronaldo was supposed to make a huge difference for the Juventus. He was supposed to end their long wait to another Champions League title. He was supposed to do it all.

He could not make it happen but he still made it close.

On Tuesday night game of soccer, Ronaldo scored a goal for Juventus to give his team a 1-0 lead over the Ajax during the Champions League quarterfinals. However, the 2 goals in another direction eliminated them by 3-2 in aggregate.

With this, the chance of Juventus winning their first Champions League title run came to an end with their last being won back in 1996.

As for Ronaldo, his 3 years of consecutively winning the Champions league tiles from his time with Real Madrid also came to an end.

Massimiliano Allegri, Juventus coach said, “There were some great expectations, that much is true. Cristiano did increase our chances of winning the Champions League but football is not math. It is not one plus one equals 2 it is one plus one equal 2, 3 or 0.”

Juventus only singed Ronaldo with one goal and that was to win the Champions League title especially after losing 2 finals in the last 4 seasons.

However, Ronaldo and his team struggled against the young and vibrant squad of Ajax while missing the key players like their captain Giorgio Chiellini as well as Douglas Costa and Mario Mandzukic.

Allegri said, “Champions League is very strange, you have to make it there in the best condition. When a team misses their 5 to 6 key players in a span of a few days, it is difficult to go on.”

Allegri could have chosen Moise Kean in absence of Mandzukic who had already scored 6 international goals in the last 6 matches he played for the Juventus and Italy. However, Allegri chose Paulo Dybala, who was out of form, to play beside Ronaldo.
