Sania Mirza returns on court after 2-year absence to win a match at WTA Tour

Sania Mirza, the tennis star of India, was able to win her first doubles match after making a return to the WTA tour since the birth of her son.

The paring of Nadiia Kichenok and Sania Mirza was able to win over the Miyu Kato and Oksana Kalashnikova duo on Tuesday by 2-6, 7-6 and 10-3 to make it to the quarterfinals round of Hobart International.

This unseeded tennis duo is now going to face the America pairing of Vania King and Christian McHale in their next round of Hobart International.




33 years old Sania Mirza is playing her first tournament since the October 2017’s China Open and is using this one as a protected ranking. She has next plans to play in the Australian Open that which will start on Monday of next week. As per Indian media sources, Sania Mirza will be pairing up with Rohan Bopanna for the mixed doubles match.

This will be the first grand slam tournament appearance for Sania Mirza since she got married to Shoaib Malik; the Pakistani cricketer and both of them had a son named Izhann in October of 2018.

As for the news about the singles matches of Hobart Intentional, top-seeded payer Elsie Mertens defeated Christian McHale by 6-1 and 6-1 while Garbine Muguruza won over Wang Yafan by 6-1 and 7-5.

In other high profile matches of Hobart International, 4th seeded player Zhang Shuai won over Kristen Flipkens by 4-6, 6-3, and 6-2; 8th seeded Caroline Garcia lost to Lizette Cabrera by 4-6, 6-4, and 6-2; Marie Bouzkova lost to Catherine Bellis 3-6, 7-6, and 6-3; and Alize Cornet winning over Alison Van Uytvanck by 7-5, 1-6, and 6-2.
