Strootman late winner leads Marseille 1-0 victory against Rennes in French League

Kevin Strootman, the substitute player for Marseille helped the team win the French League match against Rennes with a late game-winning goal. With this win, Marseille has now strengthened their 2nd place in the French league with this win over the 3rd placed Rennes.

Following the 84th-minute free-kick from Rennes’ Dimitri Payet, which got saved by Marseille goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, Strootman showed a really good balance as the clipped the loose ball high up to move into the net from a very tight angle only after 2 minutes he came of the bench.

Marseille, in its 9 league games, is still unbeaten and they are also 4 points behind the PSG; the leaders of the French League. Marseille has only played two fewer games than PSG and they are 8 clear of Rennes. Marseille will play its game against the French League’s 19th placed Nimes on coming Wednesday.

In this contest of physical prowess, Marseille’s center player Alvaro Gonzales struck the post from about 15 meters out following a strange corner during the 42nd minute. When Mendy sought out for a  routine back pass, the ball was hit by several of the paper clumps that had been thrown by the fans of Rennes and one of them also bobbled up on his foot.

Raphinah, the forward for Rennes came close to the net with his half volley that nearly went inside the area but grazed the left post during the 67th minute. Mendy, also moments later, tried to make a low drive from the same distance.

PSG is going to host the team Monaca this Sunday in their new coach Robert Moreno’s first game of the French League. He replaced the coaching place of Leonardo Jardim who was fired by Monaco for the 2nd time.
