Thiem advances at the ATP Finals by beating Djokovic

Dominic Thiem has become the first player ever to have managed to advance from the group stage of the ATP Finals after defeating eh former 5 times champion of the tournament, Novak Djokovic. Thiem defeated his group stage opponent of ATP Finals by 6-7, 6-3 and 7-6 to advance to the next round.

This now makes the crowd highly anticipated for the Federer VS Djokovic, the highly anticipated match for the rematch of the Wimbledon final between the two tennis greats. With this, Thiem will be the star of the ATP Finals to see how he will face in the semifinals of the ATP Finals.

Earlier, in the match between Roger Federer and Matteo Berrettini at the ATP Finals group stage, Federer was able to win over his opponent by 7-6 and 6-3. With this, both Federer and Djokovic are now 1-1 on the ATP Finals they both play against each other for the last round-robin match.

Thiem was able to improve his record to 2-0 following his Sunday win against Federer whereas Berrettini gets ousted of the TP Finals following his 2 losses in a row.

As for the Federer VS Djokovic match at the group finals was the highlight for the ATP Finals where both of them have 11 titles in between them. But now both of them will be fighting for a semifinals spot in the long run.

Federer said of the possible fight for the semifinal spot, “Actually it is going to be good for me to play against Novak. Maybe this will also give me a chance to get to him. Maybe it took me a couple of days or weeks to get over the loss of Wimbledon. Still, a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then.”

During his previous 16 appearances at the ATP Finals, Federer has only once failed to make it to the semis and that was back in 2008. As for Djokovic, he is bidding to win his 6th ATP Finals title to equalize with the Swiss tennis great.
