US Open; Carla Suarez Navarro defeats Maria Sharapova

Maria Sharapova was defeated by Carla Suarez Navarro on Monday at the US Open tournament. Carla won the match with 6-3 and 6-4.

The 2006 Grand Slam Champion Maria Sharapova prior to having a match with Carla Suarez Navarro never actually lost a night match.

Sharapova, the five times Grand Slam champion actually was defeated after committing 38 unforced errors along with losing half of her first serve points and that is while committing eight double faults.

The Russian tennis star told reporters that, “I did not take care of the chances that I had, and by the chances I mean the balls that were actually a bit shorter. I was hesitated to move forward and where I moved and hit the balls; I made unforced errors. The most errors were made at inside-out forehand.”

Due to Sharapova not being able to pull out her best tennis moves during the match, she succumbed to defeat in only 1 hour and 31 minutes standing under the floodlights of the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Sharapova defeat has resulted in the second career victory for the 30th seed Suarez Navarro. She did this only in six attempts against the Russian tennis star.

Talking to reporters on hr victory, Suarez said that, “Maria is really a good player and I mean she is one of the best players in the world. I am definitely happy to have beaten her.”
