Westbrook scores 40, to lead Thunder pull away to beat Suns by 118-102

On the Friday night game, the improving Phoenix Suns were able to give it their all for the three quarters to the opposing team Oklahoma City Thunders.

In the fourth quarter, Russell Westbrook and Dennis Schroder both took over for the team to lead the Thunder’s win by 118-102.




Westbrook led the Thunder with his 40 points. He scored 15 of those points with the last 6 and a half minutes to the game. Schroder scored 20 points and 14 of them were scored by him in the fourth quarter as the Oklahoma City Thunder end their two-game skid. This was a massive win for the Thunder who were playing without Paul Gorge who missed this first game of the season with a right-hand contusion. Another Thunder player, Abdel Nader scored his career-high 18 points for the team.

Billy Donovan, the Thunder’s coach said, “We defended really well, we rebounded really well and we took care of the basketball. That is why we were able to score some points”.

As for the Suns, they were led by Devin Booker who scored 25 points with 10 assists. Before losing the game in the fourth quarter, Suns had a three points lead but were massively outscored in the fourth quarter.

Westbrook said, “We had been leaning on the defense all this season and it is important for us to lean on defense to win more games”.

Other players from Suns’ side like TJ Warren scored 19 points whereas DeAndre Ayton scored 16 points on the night. Phoenix Suns who opened the season with 4-24 had previously won 5 of their last 7 games.

Bookers talking about the defeat said, “That was a very winnable game for us but we just let it slip away from our hands. The team is still learning to have what it takes to close out the games”.

U next, Oklahoma City Thunders will play against the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday while Phoenix Suns will play against Denver Nuggets on Saturday night.
