WI vs. ENG 3rd Test; Mark Wood’s maiden Test five-wicket haul puts England on top against Windies in St Lucia

Mark Wood managed to claim his first Test five-wicket haul as England remain at a dominant position in the 3rd match of the West Indies VS England Test series in St. Lucia.

Wood, in his first appearance of the Test series only gave 37 runs off his exceptional 8 overs as he claimed four wickets. Wood dropped the wicket of Shai Hope at 1 run, before seeing off Darren Bravo at 6 runs and Shimron Hetmyer at 8 runs.

It then took only two balls for Wood to pick up his fifth wicket as he struck the middle stump to see the back of Shannon Gabriel. Wood with this fifth wicket finished the game with his career-best figures of 5-41 as the entire West Indies team bowled out at just 154 runs.

England’s Spinner Moeen Ali also played an important role as he took out 4 wickets that rattled the host’s batting position. Moeen Ali dismissed WI’s openers Kraigg Brathwaite at 12 runs and John Campbell at 41 runs in successive balls all the while bowling out Keemo Paul and Alzarri Joseph. With this West Indies lost all of their 10 wickets for only 97 runs.

England had a fiery start at the pitch with openers James Anderson and Stuart Broad while Brathwaite and Campbell shared their fourth opening stand of 50 runs in the series.

The introduction of Wood into the match, who clocked the bowling at over 140 kph/87mph, brought chaos to the home side batting formation with Hope cloaking out at 1 run.

Before tea, the England, who was high on Wood, edged Hetmyer at the fastball from pacer straight into the hands of Joe Root which at first slip but claimed the second catch.

The brief break only revitalized Wood on the field as he took out Darren Bravo’s edge with Root and the Moeen Ali stumped Bairstow to slump the host side.
