British no. 1 Kyle Edmund has fallen in the first radon of the Australian Open on Monday morning.
Edmund lost his match against Tomas Berdych by 6-3, 6-0 and 7-5 in the opening round after one year of his brilliant run to the semi-finals in Melbourne.
Edmund who was the 13th seed of the tournament will now most likely drop out of world’s Top 20 rankings.
Edmund called this defeat a reality check and said to media, “it just shows where I am at the moment, my level and my stuff and how much improvement I need and where I need it. I have still got a lot of years to play so I will be definitely playing at a good standard again. However, as a player, you are always itching to get things done immediately at the competitive level.”
He further added to his statement, “You just have to have patience and give time to yourself to get things done better. This includes my game as well. I have lost matches when I am fully fit and so I have to work on many things to get back up there.”
As for Cameron Norrie who failed to reach the first ATP Tour final last week was also beaten by his opponent Taylor Fritz in straight sets.
Norrie who was going into the tournament with full confidence after his run at Auckland crashed against world no. 50 by 6-4, 7-6 and 6-2.
