Australian Open; Novak Djokovic defeats Denis Shapovalov to reach the fourth round

On the Friday’s Third round match of between Novak Djokovic and Denis Shapovalov, Djokovic lost his focus for a while but emerged rather aggressive to win the match to his charge of recording his seventh Australian Open title.

The word no. 1 was leading with 4-1 but Shapovalov won straight five games in the fourth set to rile up the Serb as he extended the match.

Djokovic reasserted his command of the match against the 19 years old as she eased into the final set and won the game by 6-3 6-4 4-6 6-0.

This was the first meeting between Djokovic and the Canadian Shapovalov. Djokovic won the opening two sets and then lost his focus a little bit as he complained to the umpire about the floodlights during the third set and Shapovalov was there to take full advantage of it.

However, in the end, Djokovic made out winning the match and has set up his fourth-round match of Australian Open against the 15th seed Daniil Medvedev. Medvedev earlier defeated his opponent David Goffin by 6-2 7-6 (7-3) 6-3.

Kei Nishikori also managed to make it into the last 16 after gaining a convincing win over Joao Sousa by 7-6 6-1 6-2.

Nishikori will next play against Pablo Carreno Busta after the Spanish player defeated Italy’s Fabio Fognini by 6-2 6-4 2-6 6-4.

On the other hand, Milos Raonic also advanced to the fourth round after gaining a win against Pierre-Hugues Herbert by 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).
