Copa America; Uruguay win over Chile by 1-0 to set quarterfinal meet with Peru

Edinson Cavani managed to get some revenge against Chile in the Copa America to match held on Monday night after he scored the only goal for Uruguay to lead their win over the defending champions.

Cavani scored the only goal of the night in the 82nd minute of the game to lea his team 1-0 win over Chile to help them move to the top of the Group C. with this win, Uruguay has now set up their quarterfinals match against Peru instead of the favorite team of the South American tournament; Colombia.

Uruguay will be facing Peru for the match which will be held on Saturday at the Arena Fonte Nova located in Salvador. As for Chile, they will be playing against Colombia on Friday at the Sao Paulo’s Arena Corinthians. Colombia has become the favorite team of the tournament with them winning all 3 of their matches without ever conceding a goal in them.

Peru suffered 5-0 defeat at hands of Brazil last week but has now advanced as two of the best to finish the group with 3rd place.

Earlier on the day, Ecuador and Japan both ended their match at the 1-1 draw which resulted in their automatic elemination from Copa America.

Cavani made his goal with a light header on the right side of the Chilean goalkeeper after receiving a cross from Jonathan Rodriguez who entered the game during the 2nd half.

Chile had its opportunity for making a goal in the 69th minute but they lost it and that that costed them with this game.

The Maracana Stadium located in Rio de Janeiro was packed with 589000 fans who were there mostly cheering for the Chilean team and they accepted the result of the game after Uruguay scored the only goal of the game.

This was the least thrilling matches for Chile out of their last 3 matches at Copa America which ended with Cavani scoring his second goal of Copa America.
